    A Positive Loss - What?

    When the final horn went off the score was 109-104 Thunder. The C's have lost their second straight game on this season long six game home stand, but not all was lost. Eight games remain before the playoffs tip off April 17th. Four at home, and four on the road. Big games in there as well Cleveland, Toronto, Chicago and Milwaukee (twice) which will give us the final look at whether the Celtics team will be able to make that playoff push none of us think they have in them.

    With all that being said losing to the Thunder you saw some positives,
    1. Rasheed Wallace had his best night in 6 weeks, and I don't mean just the scoring I mean on D and leadership with smart decisions on offense. Things from Sheed we have not seen in awhile.
    2. The fight they had, now we have seen the C's with a little extra fight over the past 5-6 games (except for that San Antonio game that was ugly) which means to me that they are getting more and more prepared to make that veteran push in the post season.
    3. The bench play, getting more fluid every game. The Finley deal we all made fun of may actually be working out, he is hitting the open J, playing solid (not great) defense and has I think brought a veteran presence on the floor that was needed for this bench to be successful. Finally -
    4. KG, he looks to be more and more ready for the post season. Each game this guy is throwing it all out there and doing it without that thought of "will my knee hold up if I go up for this alley-oop" I have loved what I have seen from Garnett on both sides of the floor these last couple of nights.

    With the long home stand about to end for the C's they can help themselves out with finishing strong not only in the standings, remember they are still tied for that 3rd spot with Atlanta, but with the confidence of a championship team getting ready to make that big push in the playoffs. That is of course as long as they see themselves as a championship team, and if you ask any of THEM (not us) they will say "YES".

    We Got Baby Back, Baby Back...

    The Boston Celtics announced today that the club has re-signed forward Glen Davis to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. “Glen has been a big part of our success for the past two years and we are very excited to have him back,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations. Davis, a 6’9”, 289 lbs, forward has spent two seasons with the Celtics and had a breakout 2008-09 season in which he averaged 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. The former LSU Tiger continued his breakout campaign in the 2009 playoffs during which he averaged 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Davis made 16 starts during the 2008-09 regular season and averaged 12.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 33.0 minutes per game. “Big Baby” scored a career-high 24 points against the Memphis Grizzlies on March 21, 2009. Davis also hit the biggest shot of his career to date when he nailed a game-winning jumper against the Orlando Magic in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals to send the series back to Boston tied 2-2. During the First Round of the 2009 playoffs against the Chicago Bulls, Davis averaged 18.1 points and 6.7 rebounds.

    Powe More Drama

    The Boston Celtics' championship hopes for the 2009 season keep getting slimmer and slimmer and today, with the announcement that Leon Powe will not see anymore action in this season's playoffs, it seems like the inevitable is drawing closer. Don't count them out yet, but missing KG and Leon Powe up front does not bode well for a championship run.

    While the C's have struggled against the lowly Bulls at home, it hasn't been the big men in Chicago's lineup that have given them fits as Ben Gorden and Derrick Rose have been the thorns in their side, but when the C's have to go up against Orlando or Cleveland, the lack of a strong presence in the lane is not a good thing.

    So with the announcement that Powe is out for the remainder of the season, the Celtics inch closer to 2009 extinction. Don't get me wrong, I am on board with a championship run and will be pulling for them every step of the way, but the realistic side of me has to wonder, can they really do it? I don't know, but I'll be pulling for them for sure.

    WHAT A GAME

    Here it is almost 8 hours after the Celtics playoff opener against the Bulls and I can't sleep I am still thinking about it. You may think it's because they lost, but it's not. It's because this was one of the best playoff games I have ever had the pleasure of watching. At the very least it was one of the best first round playoff games that I have every had the pleasure of watching.

    Forget that the Celtics are supposed to whipe the floor with the lowly Chicago Bulls. Forget that even without KG the Celtics were supposed to roll over the Chi-town crew like a steam roller filling in a pothole from a cold New England winter. Put all of that aside and enjoy this game for what it was, pure NBA basketball at it's finest.

    There were certainly some sloppy parts in the game and it wasn't a perfect 53 minutes of basketball, but it had all the intensity of a Celtics v. Lakers finals matchup and this was against the seventh seeded Bulls.

    The Rondo v. Rose matchup was enough to keep your head spinning. Who is this Rose kid and what did he do with the really crappy Bulls point guards of the past few years? I'll tell you who he is, he is the REAL deal. He matched Kareem Abdul-Jabar's 36 point performance in his first playoff game which is impressive in and of itself, but he was virtually unstoppable. The Celtics literally had no answer for him on the defensive end. But our point guard had some punch to him as well. Rajon put up sick numbers including making only one turn over (which unfortunately came in OT.) Rondo did everything he could so the C's didn't lose this one, but it wasn't meant to be.

    This was a game for the ages. Of course, I am disappointed that the Celtics lost and they BETTER win the first ever Celtics playoff game I attend on Monday night, but this was a game that had everyone on the edge of their seats. I have never cheered so loudly in my own living room and been so tense from one moment to the next as I was during this stellar basketball game.

    My hat goes off to the Chicago Bulls team who played an outstanding game and even though we were one Paul Pierce free throw away from winning the game, the NBA was the true winner because this was a game people will be talking about in years to come. The night the Chicago Bulls won their first franchise playoff game against the storied Boston Celtics. WHAT A GAME!!

    BREAKING NEWS: KG to Miss Playoffs

    So here it is, the first round of the playoffs, the first playoff game for the Celtics I have ever been to and the C's will not have KG for it. WTF!?!?!?!?! According to @celtics Doc has just declared that he will not be ready to go for the start of the playoffs and likely he will miss the entire playoff run.

    Doc said, "I just finished watching him run and he's not gonna be ready." We can all send a big F-U to Nostradumbass for calling this one, well he didn't really call it, he said it would hurt the rest of the team...which clearly it will!!

    So, I will be going to my first ever Celtics playoff game, sans one of the big three...that would've been like going to see the 80's Celts and Kevin McHale being out, just wouldn't have been right.

    Maybe he'll be ready in time for the World Series run...

    The atmosphere will be electric still and the crowd will go even more balistic when we go up 2-0 on the Bulls. GO CELTS!!

    KG, Oh how we miss Ye!

    So the C's have dropped 4 out of 5 and are only a half game up on the Orlando Magic for the 2 seed in the east. Now I know that I said on TNA that we should not talk about the one seed and what needs to happen with that for Celts to do well in the playoffs blah, blah. Let me rescind that and say "Hold on to the effin two seed at least!" Sorry if that sounded a little panicked, but if you look at this little slide that they are on, let's break it down a little shall we.

    It would be one thing if they were losing these games to the LA Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, or even the San Antonio Spurs. No the C's are losing to the Magic, Heat, Bucks, and Bulls. The only one glimmer of happiness was a win against the Grizzlies and to be honest watching that game I was not sure we were going to win that one either(thank you Ray Ray) all of this points to one thing and that is Kevin Garnett the Celtics miss you terribly. All of the talk that the C's can win with out him "Look they are undefeated with KG out of the lineup!" those days are long gone.
    Trust me I am the first to point out that the rest of the team is not on the up and up either with Davis, Scal, TA, and possibly the other Allen (Ray hurt his elbow last night) being out also hurts this team, but when you surrender 127 points to the freakin' Bulls there is a glaring emptiness in the middle of that paint that needs to return.

    We all want KG back in the worst way I know this and we all want him back for the stretch run so that means he has to be healthy, but damn watching these games without him is just painful. So in closing Kevin by all means, get well soon, like by this Friday against the Spurs.

    C's Reign Supreme

    Nobody really expected a late January match-up against the Sacramento Kings at the Boston Garden to be much of a game, but then again, nobody talked to Eddie House about it. The Celtics handled the Kings 119-100, so there wasn't much competition happening, but there sure was excitement as the Celtics picked up their ninth straight win.

    Where did the excitement come from? Somewhere beyond the three point arch as Eddie House continued his absolute domination of the perimeter. House made 8 of 9 three pointers and is making a strong case for himself to participate in the 3-point shooting contest in the all star game.

    I have to be honest, when I watched Eddie House on Sunday against the Mavs, I thought he was a bit selfish and all he ever wanted to do was get the ball so he could shoot, but I have since changed my tone. The guy hussles on every play and is always looking to make the right play, which 8 times out of 9 last night he did.

    Then there was the small matter of Rajon Rondo who had another GAME and made a bigger case for himself to be included on the East roster of the All Star team (even though he'll probably be left off the list.) As goes Rajon so goes the Celtics and anytime that's the case you know a guy should be at least considered for the all-star roster.

    So the Celtics move on to prepare to play in Detroit on Friday. Nobody envy's that. Who wants to spend their Friday night in the Motor City? I know I don't. Looking for their 10th win in a row and to continue their second longest winning streak of the season, keeping hope alive that they will match or beat the season record set by the Bulls who went 72-10. I know the C's are aiming a little higher than that, 73-9, here we come!!
