The Madden Curse is alive and well. Just ask Troy Polamalu, he is the latest casualty on the list. What is the curse? Since the start of the decade there has been a rash of injuries/misfortune that has befallen the unlucky player that graces the cover of Madden NFL Football video games. This year the presumable double whammy of Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald have to contend with the myth. I for one feel the "myth" carries some disturbing weight. Here is the most recent list of cover guys for the venerable franchise.2001: Eddie George -No injury.
2002: Daunte Culpepper - Missed five games, played poorly.
2003: Marshall Faulk - Missed six games. Never ran for 1,000 yards again.
2004: Michael Vick - Broke his leg, missed 11 games.
2005: Ray Lewis - Missed only one game.
2006: Donovan McNabb - Missed last seven games of the season.
2007: Shaun Alexander - Broke his foot, missed six games.
2008: Vince Young - Missed one game. Has yet to pan out as a top pick.
2009: Brett Favre - Missed no games. Suffered undisclosed arm injury.
2010: Troy Polamalu - Out 3-6 weeks with a knee injury.
2010: Larry Fitzgerald - TBD.
You be the judge, maybe it is just coincidence. Or maybe when Larry gets injured this weekend everyone will become believers. Stay tuned.

I just read this article by Dan Shuaghnessy about how Brady has gone soft and I am slightly torn. On one hand, I get his drift, on the other hand, why shouldn't we have a different impression of football players. Isn't this a good image he is portraying? Don't we want high school football players to think it's ok to have sensitivity and show love?
Maybe Shaughnessy would perfer that they all grow up to be big steroid enhanced tough guys who walk around beating people up for no reason other than Roid Rage. I applaud Tom Brady for having the cojones to show is affection for Giselle in public and for never being the d-bag that we come to expect from professional athletes.
In the day of Michael Vick and Barry Bonds, isn't it nice to have an athlete that people can look up to? Someone who is a stand-up guy as well as a good husband and father? What is wrong with all of this?
Don't get me wrong, I get it. I understand Shaughnessy's point in this article, but instead of calling Brady out for it, let's celebrate a guy who knows who is and doesn't waiver from that. He is our quarterback and despite NOSTRADUMBASS' comments, he'll be back slingin the ball to #81 this year better than ever!!

In another brilliant move that will surely add to the legacy of the gunslinger Al Davis, he has knee jerked DeAngelo Hall out of Oakland. Hmmm, a stud position player that underperformed in the managerial quagmire known as the Oakland Raiders. Sound familiar? Thanks Al, we need to firm up the secondary here in New England. The counterpoint is of course that he would not fit in here, he is not a "Patriots kinda guy." Really? Corey Dillon, um, Randy Moss, sound familiar? But he is a Michael Vick sympathizer. But he has been underwhelming since his fresh start in Oakland. Fresh start in Oakland, is there such a thing? We can't afford to not take a long look at this guy. I as a BC fan, was unfortunately on the receiving end of a great deal of his stellar play as a defensive back for VA Tech. The balance of his contract would be a rent anyway.
