Jimmy Fund Telethon Happening NOW

It's an annual tradition in Boston, when the Fenway Faithful come out in HUGE numbers to support the work that the Jimmy Fund does all year long. I'm talking about the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Telethon.

Each year celebrities, athletes and every day Bostonians come out to support an incredible cause and have a great day. The telethon is now live on WEEI and will continue throughout the day and into the evening during Red Sox coverage on NESN.

The Wicked Pissa Dude family invites you to make a donation, of any size you can afford, to support the Jimmy Fund and the fine work they do. No amount is too small and every little bit helps. So if you only have a dollar or if you can skip that DD Coolata this afternoon for a good cause and can spare $5, please do what you can.

Too many times cancer has hit the Wicked Pissa Dude family already and it is bound to strike again as it has so many others in the Baystate, around New England and throughout the world. The fight to cure cancer is a struggle, but one that is being met everyday by the amazing people at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The more money that can be raised, the more research they can do and the fewer folks have to suffer due to this terrible disease.

#10? Do The Patriots Deserve That?

Weei.com has the New England Patriots listed at #10 in their NFL power rankings. Two questions here;

1.) When did EEI start doing power rankings?
2.) Do the Patriots really deserve to be at #10?

Let's start with letting you read their reasoning...

"(3) Brady doesn’t look comfortable in the pocket, and teams are going after No. 12 hard. It’s inevitable that future opponents will copy the Jets’ strategy and continue to pressure Brady and the offensive line. Let’s see how the the Pats respond Sunday when they face another tough test in the Falcons. Look for the Patriots to run the ball more and take advantage of their solid running backs, as I think Belichick realizes Brady has thrown the ball far too much over the past two games. The Patriots sit at No. 10 at this point, but by midseason Brady should be back in his groove and the defense will improve."

A couple of points here. Brady doesn't look comfortable in the pocket in week #2 because he missed an entire NFL season. he was on the sidelines while Matty Cassel was taking snaps, actually he wasn't even on the sidelines. You think any one of us armchair quarterbacks have any idea how fast an NFL game is really played? Must be hard to keep that sense about you when you're out for an entire season. Brady will be back to his usual self sooner then mid-season.

I also think his struggles are being overstated. He had a bad game. He's had games where he's thrown four picks in one game and nobody screamed bloody murder like they are doing now. Be patient with the guy and he will deliver.

As for the defense, maybe I am naive, but what was wrong with the defense. Mark Sanchez played very well and got the ball into some very tight spots. ALSO, the defense gave up only 3 points in the first half and aside from the two drives that the Jets managed to get some solid yardage did a pretty good job at containing the young, explosive offense. This is a defense that has yet to have anytime to gel together that did this. Imagine where we will be in two or three weeks.

The Patriots will be fine. Have we any reason to doubt a Bill Belichick coached team? Even with Tom Brady last year they went a very strong 11-5 and SHOULD HAVE made the playoffs. This season is NOT a wash two games in, so I invite everyone to stop acting like it is.

Curt in the Car - On Manny Ramirez

Curt Schilling was built for Boston. The only disappointing thing about Curt Schilling is that he didn’t spend his entire career with the Red Sox. Imagine what that would’ve been like. The rings he would’ve won. One can only imagine. Despite his political views, Curt Schilling is a man of the people and I love for him for that, we all love him for that.

Even when he is not on the field playing for the Red Sox, he remains the voice of reason and the one player you can turn to get an honest assessment of the situation at hand. For example, take a listen to Curt in the Car on EEI today discussing the Manny Ramirez situation. Not only did you get honesty, but talk about passion, you can hear it in his voice.

It is obvious from this conversation that Curt Schilling liked Manny Ramirez and thought that he was a good person, but also that there was some tremendous frustrations on the part of Curt and the rest of his teammates at the BS attitude that Manny would sometimes come to the ballpark with.

Would things be different if Manny were in the line-up of the Boston Red Sox today? Your damn right they would be, they would be much worse. I truly am in the camp that the Red Sox would not even be contending for the AL East right now had Manny stayed with the team. Sure his bat is nice and he’s bustin ass in LA right now, but if he was still here in Boston, he would be trouble, like he apparently always was, just ask Curt.

Schilling calling it a career?

Curt Schilling in an interview with Boston's Sports Radio powerhouse WEEI tipped his hand about the future. He is leaning towards retirement more than ever. He intimated that if he was to pitch next year it would be in a "2nd half" scenario. His thoughts are better expressed here on his blog. 38pitches.com

EXTRA - EXTRA - Schilling SHUTDOWN!

In an exclusive this morning on the WEEI's Dennis & Callahan show. Boston Red Sox superstar Curt Schilling announced that he has finally opted for season ending shoulder surgery. After a recent meeting with former Red Sox team physician Dr. Bill Morgan in Philadelphia Curt will shut it down. Ugh. Surgery is set for Monday with Dr. Morgan in Philadelphia. The latest MRI is cloudy and he suspects the condidtion will be worse when thay actually "get in there" in his words. More on this story as it develops. Thank you Curt. You are the man!
