Tonight, the Red Sox go for their ninth straight regular season win against the New York Yankees and their eighth this season. How about that? Dustin Pedroia says that all of the games so far could've gone either way and of course he HAS to say that, but that's not really true.
Could the Yankees have won on Tuesday night when the Red Sox won 7-0 and shutout the Bronx Bombers for the first time this season? I don't think so. What about the 16-11 win back in April? I don't think so.
We have flat out outplayed the New York Yankees this season. Sure there were close games, there always will be when we play the Yankees, but we came out on the winning side of the ball and now have sole posession of first place.
So, why is tonights game a "must-win" for the Red Sox? I am sure you're thinking, a "must-win" in June? Well, maybe "must-win" is a bit of an overstatement, but this is a game the Red Sox need to win.
If the Red Sox win tonight, they will be up two games on the Yankees and have a strong hold on first place in the toughest division in baseball.
Here's another reason that this is a "must-win" game for the Red Sox. The Yankees won't see the Red Sox until August 6th, long after the All-Star break. This is not a big deal if they get off the snide tonight and get a win on the board, but think of the mind games being winless against their vaunted rivals the Boston Red Sox would play with the psyche of the team.
One more thing, doesn't A-Rod look skinny since he stopped taking the juice? Good for us, the Curse of A-Rod continues with or without steroids. GO SOX!!
