Is this the final salvo? Will this be the last time we see the gritty veteran on the bump at Fenway? I hope not. I don't say this with the hopes of a game 6 at Fenway, although I believe there will be one. My concern is for the long term. Have the Red Sox management already lost Curt to free agency for not signing him before leaving Spring training? It remains to be seen.
Schill has already expressed his desire to test the market this off-season due to the Sox lackadaisical attitude towards his future. Does Theo think Curt is too old now? Probably. Will Curt prove him wrong tonight? We shall see.
Schilling has already said he would never go to the Yankees. Throwing a little mud in Damon's direction, he explained "you are either a Red Sox guy or a Yankees guy, you could never be both." Tonight the guy who single handedly changed the fortunes of this franchise and the hearts and minds of Red Sox Nation, gets the ball. He took the mound in 2004 wounded and bleeding and shut down a Yankees line up that had demoralized the Sox just three games prior.
Schilling is the type of guy I like my boys to see in the limelight. Well spoken, resolved and faithful. He still stops before every first pitch to pray, not in the dugout but on the mound.
As Mr. Burns said about Homer once, "I like the cut of his jib."
Schilling deserves to throw a classic tonight. He owes it to himself. This should be fun to watch.
Enjoy Red Sox fans!

To be honest if last night was the last night we see Curt Schilling in a Boston uniform it would be ok with me for a few reasons.
1. It was only 5 1/3 innings but it was a performance that made us remember how excited we were to have this guy in the rotation when they got him back in '04. A big game pitcher that knows how to lay it all out there.
2. The future is now with Clay Buchholz who will be avail to start next season every 5th and with Schill most likely wanting monster money, are you willing to give it to a guy who may not give 25+ starts during the season. Do you really want to take that risk?
3. Finally it was 5 1/3 innings! How much do you think the guy has left. As much as I love the Schill and I do don't get me wrong but the man will be 41 in a few weeks and a 41 year old man should not be getting the money he will be asking for on team with some up and coming talent in the starting rotation down on the farm and with some of the possibilities there are in the free agent market this off season. See link http://www.mlb4u.com/freeagency.php
All in all I am happy for Schill if this was his last start in Boston since it was a GOOD one, but it will be time to move on in the off-season and continue to work the young talent into Boston.
GO SOX!!!!!!!!
